More Than Footwear: Beau Bridges & Razor Saltboy Bring New Shoes to Navajo Youth

Published on October 2, 2025

For the students at Crystal Boarding School in Navajo, New Mexico, this school year began with more than sharpened pencils and stacks of fresh notebooks. It began with something far more powerful: the joy of being seen. Thanks to a collaboration between acclaimed Navajo singer-songwriter Razor Saltboy, his longtime friend and World Youth Clubs Global Ambassador Beau Bridges, and the Rick and Susan Goings Foundation, 64 children at the school received a new pair of Nike shoes, socks, and thoughtful surprises.

The effort was about more than footwear; it was a community-driven mission. “It’s about giving these kids a sense of pride as they walk into their classrooms,” Razor shared. “I grew up without shoes, not by choice, but because my alcoholic parents could not afford to buy us shoes. I did not have shoes on a regular basis until I went to Crystal Boarding School.”

Many of the children, like Razor once was, come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, so the gift of something new, personal, and their very own is powerful. Each student received a personalized shoebox with their name, carefully filled with new socks and snacks, a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported by a wider community.

This initiative was a shining example of what can happen when communities come together with purpose. Razor Saltboy, whose music carries the spirit and traditions of Navajo culture, has long been a voice for his people. Beyond the stage, he has dedicated himself to uplifting the youth in his community, ensuring they feel the pride of their heritage and the confidence to build their own futures. By partnering with Beau Bridges and the Rick and Susan Goings Foundation, he extended that vision into a tangible gift that touched the lives of dozens of children. WYC and the Rick & Susan Goings Foundation, continue their dedication to youth empowerment ensures that children across the globe feel supported as they pursue education and opportunity.

Beau, a longtime advocate for underserved children, demonstrates how powerful it is when leaders use their platforms to empower youth. As a Board Member and Global Ambassador with World Youth Clubs, he helps bring forward opportunities that spark self-confidence in youth and open doors for brighter futures.

For Razor, this initiative reflects his commitment beyond the stage: to uplift his community, honor its youth, and remind them of their own inherent strength.
